But, according to legend, the True Cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified, was found by St. Hel- ena—the mother of Constantine the Great, the Roman Emperor who converted to Christianity—in the 4th century.

The memorial of this celebration goes to Jerusalem that st Helena was advised to light a fire which by then uses the direction of the smoke to point the place where the cross buried.
