Ethiopian Jews have faced racism, poverty, and discrimination since being airlifted to Israel in a series of rescue operations in the mid 1980s and early 1990s. Ethiopian Jewish activists are now reclaiming their story, which has often been portrayed as a helpless community rescued only by Israel and North American Jews. They are sharing lesser-known details of Beta Israel history in an effort to alter attitudes and help younger generations of Ethiopian Israelis learn their heritage. The story of their exodus to Israel was a local initiative led by its own members, with allies paying expenses and bribes. Now, the community is reclaiming their story and working to combat persistent racism in Israel.

ኢትዮጵያውያን አይሁዶች እ.ኤ.አ. በ1980ዎቹ አጋማሽ እና በ1990ዎቹ መጀመሪያ ላይ ባደረገው ተከታታይ የማዳን ዘመቻ ወደ እስራኤል ከተወሰዱ በኋላ ዘረኝነትን፣ ድህነትን እና አድሎአዊ ድርጊቶችን ገጥሟቸዋል። ኢትዮጵያዊያን የአይሁድ አክቲቪስቶች በእስራኤል እና በሰሜን አሜሪካ አይሁዶች ብቻ የታደጉት ረዳት የሌላቸው ማህበረሰብ ተደርገው ይታዩ የነበረውን ታሪካቸውን አሁን እየመለሱ ነው። አመለካከቶችን ለመቀየር እና የኢትዮጵያ እስራኤላውያን ወጣቶች ቅርሶቻቸውን እንዲማሩ ለመርዳት ሲሉ ብዙም ያልታወቁ የቤታ እስራኤል ታሪክ ዝርዝሮችን እያካፈሉ ነው። ወደ እስራኤል የመሰደዳቸው ታሪክ በራሱ አባላት የሚመራ የሀገር ውስጥ ተነሳሽነት ሲሆን አጋሮቹ ወጭና ጉቦ እየከፈሉ ነው። አሁን፣ ማህበረሰቡ ታሪካቸውን መልሰው በእስራኤል ውስጥ የማያቋርጥ ዘረኝነትን ለመዋጋት እየሰሩ ነው።
