Samsung and other tech companies experienced significant success in the second quarter of 2022 due to strong demand for electronic devices and chips. However, the global economy has since been facing multiple challenges, including inflation, rising interest rates, and higher energy costs. As a result, global memory chip revenue dropped 10 percent last year. This has caused Samsung to be dealt a heavy blow, with weakening demand and rising costs. Vice Chairman Han Jonghee stated that this difficult business environment will continue this year, as the economic slowdown and risks in supply chains increase uncertainties. Samsung is expecting demand to begin recovering in the second half of 2023.
