Central bank bans consignment payment for beef exports

The National Bank of Ethiopia has told banks that meat producers can only export if they get full payment from buyers abroad. Ethiopia exports a large amount of meat and earned USD 109 million in the last fiscal year. The Association of Meat Producers and Exporters were happy with the decision to cease exports of meat to other countries on consignment, which took a long time to pay. An industry insider is worried that it could hurt Ethiopia’s competitive position if other emerging exporters keep working under consignment. The new rule will stop problems like waiting for a long time to get paid by consignees.

ስጋ አምራቾች ወደ ውጭ መላክ የሚችሉት ሙሉ ክፍያ ከውጭ ገዥዎች ሲያገኙ መሆኑን የኢትዮጵያ ብሔራዊ ባንክ ለባንኮች ተናግሯል። ኢትዮጵያ በተጠናቀቀው በጀት ዓመት ከፍተኛ መጠን ያለው ሥጋ ወደ ውጭ በመላክ 109 ሚሊዮን ዶላር ገቢ አግኝታለች። ስጋ አምራቾች እና ላኪዎች ማኅበር በጭነት ወደሌሎች አገሮች የሚላከው ሥጋ እንዲቆም በመወሰኑ ያስደሰታቸው ሲሆን ይህም ለመክፈል ረጅም ጊዜ ፈጅቷል። ሌሎች ታዳጊ ላኪዎች በዕቃ ተይዘው መስራታቸውን ቢቀጥሉ የኢትዮጵያን ተወዳዳሪነት ሊጎዳ እንደሚችል አንድ የኢንዱስትሪ አዋቂ ይጨነቃል። አዲሱ ህግ በተቀባዮች ክፍያ ለማግኘት ረጅም ጊዜ መጠበቅን የመሳሰሉ ችግሮችን ያቆማል።
