Violence has broken out in the Jille Dhummuga district in Oromo Special Zone, Amhara region. The Amhara Regional state government has deployed federal police and defense forces alongside Amhara special forces to restore peace and order. Local armed forces have allegedly been attacking civilian populations with heavy weapons since Saturday, leaving many dead and forcing locals to flee their homes. Residents blame the attackers as being militants of the Fano armed group while the Amhara Regional state government blames “antipeace forces”. Shewa Robit has declared a curfew and the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) puts the number of civilians killed since Saturday at 65. In April, a similar violence in the same area left 303 people dead, 369 injured, 1,539 houses burned, and 50,000 displaced.
