በደቡብ ምዕራብ ኢትዮጵያ ሀላባ ከተማ የሚገኙ ሁለት እስረኞች ወደ እስር ቤት ሲመለሱ ለመሸሽ ሞክረው በጠባቂዎቹ አይን ላይ የቺሊ ዱቄት በመርጨት እንዲሸሹ አድርጓቸዋል። ከአራቱ እስረኞች መካከል አንዱ ሞቷል፣ ሌላው ተጎድቷል፣ ሁለቱ አሁንም በቁጥጥር ስር ናቸው። እስረኞቹ ቃሪያውን ከየት እንዳገኙት አልታወቀም። ሟች እስረኛ በእስር ላይ እያለ በፖሊስ አባላት ላይ የእጅ ቦምብ በመወርወሩ የተለየ ክስ ቀርቦበታል። የቺሊ ዱቄት ጥቃቱ ፖሊስ እንዳለው ምንም አይነት ጉዳት አላደረሰም። የኢትዮጵያ ምግብ ቀይ በርበሬን ያጠቃልላል፣ አላባ በማልማት ታዋቂ ነው። ባለሥልጣናቱ የተሸሹት እስረኞች አደገኛ መሆናቸውን ገልጸው፣ ሕዝቡ በአደን ላይ እገዛ እንዲያደርግ ሙጋቦቻቸውን ለሕዝብ ይፋ ለማድረግ አስበዋል ብለዋል።

inmates in the south-western Ethiopian town of Alaba attempted to flee while being escorted back to jail and sprayed chili powder in the eyes of the guards, causing them to flee. Of the four detainees, one was dead, another was hurt, and two are still at large. It is unknown from whence the prisoners obtained the chili. The deceased prisoner was facing a different accusation for allegedly hurling a grenade at police officers while incarcerated. The chilli powder attack, according to the police, did not damage any of its members. Ethiopian food includes red pepper, and Alaba is renowned for cultivating it. The officials claimed that the fugitive inmates are dangerous and that they intend to make their mugshots public so that members of the public can help with the hunt.
