This week, the Ethiopian Ministry of Education revealed that only 3.3% of students who took the National High School Leaving Examination scored a passing grade of 50% or higher. This is a dramatic decrease from the passing rates of previous years. The exam was administered in October 2022 and over 900,000 students participated. The issue of cheating during the exam, which is usually politically motivated, has been a long standing problem in Ethiopia. The new Minister, Dr. Berhanu Nega, introduced measures to try and combat this cheating. The results of this exam have a large impact on the number of students who can attend institutions of higher education in Ethiopia. Dr. Berhanu Nega believes this result is reflective of the state of the education system, and it is necessary to bring about change.

በዚህ ሳምንት የኢትዮጵያ ትምህርት ሚኒስቴር የሀገር አቀፍ የሁለተኛ ደረጃ ማጠናቀቂያ ፈተና ከወሰዱ ተማሪዎች መካከል 50% እና ከዚያ በላይ የማለፊያ ውጤት ያስመዘገቡት 3.3% ብቻ መሆናቸውን ይፋ አድርጓል። ይህ ካለፉት ዓመታት ማለፊያ ፍጥነት ጋር በእጅጉ የቀነሰ ነው። ፈተናው የተካሄደው በጥቅምት 2022 ሲሆን ከ900,000 በላይ ተማሪዎች ተሳትፈዋል። በፈተና ወቅት የማጭበርበር ጉዳይ፣ አብዛኛውን ጊዜ ከፖለቲካ ጋር የተያያዘ፣ በኢትዮጵያ የረጅም ጊዜ ችግር ሆኖ ቆይቷል። አዲሱ ሚኒስትር ዶ/ር ብርሃኑ ነጋ ይህንን ኩረጃ ለመቋቋም የሚረዱ እርምጃዎችን አስተዋውቀዋል። የዚህ ፈተና ውጤት በኢትዮጵያ የከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋማትን መከታተል በሚችሉ ተማሪዎች ላይ ትልቅ አስተዋፅኦ አለው። ዶ/ር ብርሃኑ ነጋ ይህ ውጤት የትምህርት ስርዓቱን ሁኔታ የሚያንፀባርቅ በመሆኑ ለውጥ ማምጣት እንደሚያስፈልግ ያምናሉ።
