US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda ThomasGreenfield, has said that Eritrean troops are still in Ethiopia, contradicting Ethiopian authorities who say the Eritreans have already left. The Tigray war, which began in 2020, resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and millions of people fleeing their homes. A senior Ethiopia military officer and a spokesperson for the Tigrayan forces both deny and affirm, respectively, the presence of Eritrean troops in the country. Ethiopian government spokesperson, national security advisor and army spokesperson did not respond to requests for comment. The situation is seen as a key obstacle to effective implementation of the November peace agreement.
