የጥምቀት ፌስቲቫል በኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋህዶ እምነት ተከታዮች ዘንድ ትልቅ ከሚባሉት አንዱ ሲሆን ጥር 19 ይከበራል። የክርስቶስን ጥምቀት ያከብራል እናም ሃይማኖታዊ የመቀደስ እና የመንፈሳዊ መነቃቃት ጊዜ ነው። በፌስቲቫሉ ላይ ኢትዮጵያውያን ‘ሻማ’ የተሰኘ ነጭ የጥጥ ልብስ ለብሰው እንስሳትን እያረዱ፣ ልዩ ቢራ በማፍላት፣ ዳቦ ይጋግሩ ነበር። በዓሉ በተጨማሪም የቃል ኪዳኑ ታቦት ምሳሌ የሆነውን ‘ታቦት’ እና የኢየሱስን ጥምቀት እንደገና ያሳያል። ወጣቶች የትዳር ጓደኛቸውን የሚመርጡበት እና ባህላዊ የፈረስ ውድድር የሚያደርጉበት የባህል ቀንም አለ። በመጨረሻም ቲምኬትን በዩኔስኮ የማይዳሰስ የባህል ቅርስ ለማድረግ ጥረት እየተደረገ ነው።

Timket Festival is one of the grandest occasions amongst Ethiopia’s Orthodox Christian community and is celebrated on January 19. It commemorates the baptism of Christ and is a period of religious sanctification and spiritual revival. During the festival, Ethiopians wear white cotton robes called ‘Shamma’, slaughter animals, brew a special beer, and bake bread. The festival also includes the ‘Tabot’, which is a replica of the Ark of the Covenant, and a reenactment of Jesus’ baptism. There is also a cultural dating day for young people to choose their spouses and a traditional horse race. Finally, efforts are being made to inscribe Timket at UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage.
