የኢትዮጵያ የመጀመሪያ ትውልድ የነርቭ ቀዶ ህክምና ባለሙያዎችን በማሰልጠን የአከርካሪ አጥንት እና ሀይድሮሴፋለስ ህጻናትን እና ህጻናትን በማሰልጠን የደች አሜሪካዊው ዶክተር ማሪኑስ (ዲክ) ኮኒንግ በ76 አመታቸው ከአእምሮ እጢ ህይወታቸው አልፏል። በReachAnother ፋውንዴሽን በኩል ለሰራው ስራ ለ2023 አለም አቀፍ የህይወት ዘመን እውቅና ሽልማት መርጦታል።
ሽልማቱ የነርቭ ቀዶ ሕክምናን መስክ ለማራመድ በህይወት ዘመን ላደረገው አስተዋፅኦ አለምአቀፍ የነርቭ ቀዶ ሐኪም እውቅና ይሰጣል። ዲክ እና መንትያ ወንድሙ ጃን እ.ኤ.አ. በ 2017 ሬችአኖተር ፋውንዴሽን ለመመስረት በፈረንጆቹ አቆጣጠር ከ2009 ጀምሮ በኢትዮጵያ በነርቭ ቲዩብ ጉድለት ላይ ለተሰማሩ ዶክተሮች የህክምና አገልግሎት እና ስልጠና ሲሰጥ ቆይቷል።
Dr. Marinus (Dick) Koning, a Dutch American surgeon who worked to train Ethiopia’s first generation of neurosurgeons to treat babies and children with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, has passed away from a brain tumor at the age of 76. The American Association of Neurological Surgeons has chosen him for the 2023 International Lifetime Recognition Award for his work through the Reach Another Foundation.
The award recognizes an international neurosurgeon for lifetime contributions to advancing the field of neurosurgery. Dick and his twin brother Jan were also decorated with knighthoods in 2017 for their establishment of the Reach Another Foundation, which has since 2009 provided medical facilities and training for doctors specialized in neural tube defects in Ethiopia.
