Rafael Nadal, the defending champion of the Australian Open, was eliminated in the second round by Mackenzie McDonald. The Spaniard was clearly affected in the groin and struggled to keep up with the American, who won the match 6-4, 6-4, 7-5. Nadal has never managed to retain a Grand Slam title outside of Roland Garros and this year’s Australian Open was no exception. He was unable to convert a single break and lost the match despite a brief equalizer at 5-5.
